How I Use Amazon A+ Content to Promote My Book Sales
Engaging A+ Content Enhances Your Amazon Product Page
I finished my book and put it up for sale on Amazon. Hooray, my book is done! I can now kick back and let the sales roll in.
Except, that’s not how you really sell books. Publishing the book is just the first step; now, the real work of selling begins. The good news is that my book has sales. I made around $50 in royalties on Amazon in July (I published my book on July 16.) So far in August, my book has earned just over $29. This validates that there is a market for my book.
However, Amazon is a huge marketplace, and now, my book is like a minnow in an ocean dominated by far bigger books. Immediately after seeing how puny my book seems in the Amazon marketplace, I started thinking of what more I could do to turn my lonely minnow of a book into a much bigger fish!
Amazon’s A+ Content seemed like a good place to start. A+ Content is what you see when you look at any product on Amazon and scroll down a bit. There’ll be additional images, product descriptions, comparison charts, etc. Essentially, it’s the seller’s opportunity to show more of the value that the buyer will receive if they purchase.
As a new and up-and-coming author aiming to sell my first book, build an audience, and soon publish more books, it seemed like a good idea to take advantage of this space. So I went to my Kindle Direct Publishing dashboard, selected Marketing, and chose the option “Manage A+ Content.” There, I was presented with a series of modules to customize and add details to interest my readers and encourage them to buy. I selected two modules that I thought worked together, and I built out my A+ Content to look like this:
Woah, that looks like a lot! Yes… but it wasn’t really too hard to figure out how to do it. I got the idea for the first module, the top half (the book description, bullet points, and the “About Matt Tomporowski” sections) from how Veronica Llorca-Smith of the
made her A+ Content. Veronica is 10x, the marketer that I am, so I knew if Veronica was doing it, it was worth me trying as well. (Perhaps the most important thing I have learned here on Substack is that no matter what I’m doing, there will be someone ahead of me who has already figured out how to do it better. We accelerate our progress by asking questions and emulating the savvy people ahead of us.)I added the second module, “Go From Meeting and Attracting Someone to Taking Them Out on a Date,” to show vistors how reading these chapters will solve one of the problems faced by people who want to date more.
One feature (that can also be a bit of a headache) is that you need to submit different A+ Content for every Amazon region. My two primary markets for Amazon are the U.S. and Canada, meaning I need to do everything twice. However, it also means I have the flexibility to do things differently! Canada is a small market relative to the U.S., but we’re a proud country, and Canadians like to support homegrown writers. (We even have an expression, “The world needs more Canada.” Which is kind of true. Please come for a visit.) So, to appeal to Canadians on the Amazon Canada marketplace, I changed my second A+ content module:
In the bottom left, I feature my book’s four principles. I feel this has a strong appeal for my Canadian readers. Let’s be honest: Canada can be a little… wholesome. In the bottom right corner, I go for a straight-out appeal to Canadian patriotism. Essentially, I’m broadcasting, “Hey! I’m Canadian, buy my book!” Obviously, I can only use this in my home market, but hey, whatever works.
I’m planning to expand my A+ Content for the UK and Australia, my next two markets. However, in these cases, I will most likely emulate what I do for the U.S.
It’s too early to know if my A+ Content is making a difference in my book sales. However, I feel it noticeably enhances my product page. It motivates me to think about the overall design (and that darn cover that I’m thinking about changing again…) and improve it because it’s a nice way of featuring a truly nice design. This is definitely something I will consider and work on.
If you have a book on Amazon and you’ve done some A+ Content, I would love to see it. Please share it or point me to it, as it would be fantastic to see how you use this feature of your Amazon product page.

Thanks for this helpful tip ,Matt. I've seen it before but never really know what it was. I will defenitely utilize A+ content when I publish my book.
Awesome to see you doing Amazon A+!
I think everything helps.
PS: "Hey, I'm Canadian, buy my book" is gold. You should do a campaign with this or something. It's funny and catchy.
