Setting My Book Launch Club Goals
Congratulations, you have a book launch club! It's time to get clear about what you hope to accomplish.
When I announced my book launch club, I was not just astonished, but deeply moved by the number of people who not only showed interest but also offered to join and participate! (Thank you, everyone! I am very grateful for the support members of the Substack community have shown me.) Together, we are making this book launch a success.
As with all endeavours, we learn as we go. This morning, I received a message from the ever-helpful (and more experienced at this than me)
, in essence, asking if my book launch club members are aware of the significant role they play in this journey. Do they know precisely what their involvement means regarding what they would need to do and what goals I want the book launch club to help me achieve?I considered this and thought, Veronica raises a GREAT POINT.
Here are the details that I would like to share with everyone who has already joined my book launch club or if you’re thinking about it.
The manuscript for my book, “Meeting People in Real Life: Your Guide to Easily Meet People and Make Genuine Connections for Friendship and Dating,” is complete. It’s 48,130 words and typed in a 5”x 8” format, which makes it 214 pages long. The writing style is similar to my Substack posts, which helps make it a quick read. (But I’m the author, so it’s better that you be the judge of this!)
I have set my release date on Amazon to Tuesday, July 16, which feels imminently close to me. However, I’m also a procrastinator, and I keep pushing the date back, so this morning, I decided to set a date relatively soon and go for it.
I’m asking my book launch club members to spend a couple of evenings reading my book and send me whatever feedback they like. Then, as soon as the book appears on Amazon (I will message you and remind you!), please write me a review. I would also greatly appreciate a review on Goodreads. Optionally, you could also write a post about the book on your social media, encouraging your friends to check it out.
Some specific feedback I am looking for is whether my book follows and promotes the four basic principles that I outline in the introduction:
Have Fun
Be Safe
Be Bold
Always Treat Others with Respect
These principles are important to me, and I want them to be represented throughout my book. You could keep them in mind while reading my manuscript. Let me know if you feel it hits the mark or if there are ways in which I could improve it.
Now, if the details I have added above make you interested in joining my book launch club, I still have a few spots open. By all means, message me and join. However, if you feel you won’t have the time or don’t like to write reviews on Amazon, etc., that’s okay, too! As with my book, it’s important that my book launch club is a good experience for everyone it reaches.
If you would like to join, please message me directly or in the comments below. Also, in case you missed it, here’s the original article announcing my book launch club:
Announcing my Book Launch Club
My manuscript for my self-help book, “Meeting People in Real Life: Your Guide to Easily Meet People and Make Genuine Connections for Friendship and Dating,” is finished! Now, I’m preparing for my first-ever book launch, and to kick it off, I’m starting my book launch club. I aim to have a 15-person book launch club, and I’m asking you to join.
Matt, I'm new to Substack, but not to publishing and reviewing. The community here on Substack is far better than I expected, and having a book launch club is a great idea.
I messaged you about reviewing now that it's published. @Kristina God had restacked you ask for reviews.
Take note that Amazon's algorithms judge reviews and being a verified buyer if the book is important.
If your book is in Kindle, you can drop the price to 2.99 for a while for your future follower-reviewers to be verified purchasers
I can't wait!! So excited for you , Matt!
